The History and Herd Sires Behind Courtney Cattle

Courtney Herefords originally was, and still is, a sheep ranch. From the start, we have selected our Herefords to perform well on our bleak, Eastern Montana range conditions.

Starting with Tommy 46th, our cattle have genetically been big and easy fleshing with light birth weights. A Tommy 46th daughter produced 310, our landmark sire that laid the foundation for light birth weights, high performance and clean-uddered, top-producing females. Today, 310's blood flows throughout our herd because his top daughter produced K411. K411 did everything!...sirring perfect- uddered, outstanding females, light birth weights, top-end performance and eye-appealing, quality cattle. His blood flows through two present-day sires, 335C and 3325C. These two massive, high quality bulls also show the influence of maternal greats 66J and 170Y. 66J left hardy, good haired, easy fleshing, light birth weight offspring and 170Y sired highly fertile, good doing, sound cattle and herd leading females.

More than just one good bull backs our breeding program. Generation after generation of functional, good doing, light birth weight, least-cost cattle that perform naturally is the solid warranty behind every Courtney bull...it's our whiteface guarantee!

1960s
TOMMY 46TH Calved in 1958, maternal grandsire of 310...way ahead of his time for size, muscle and length. Daughters were the cornerstones of our early seedstock program.

1970s
CH SR ARDMORE 310 Maternal grandsire of K411. Small enough at birth he was almost cut, but by weaning time he was the heaviest! His genetics are much of the reason we are able to maintain moderate birth weights compared to the rest of the breed. Daughters were great range cows that made our program's solid foundation.
1980s
COURT STANMORE K411 Maternal grandsire of 335C and 3325C. Daughters have been a dominant force for years showing great udders, sound feet, feminine structure, eye appeal and top production.

1980s
BELL L 85B DOM 66J, Maternal grandsire of 335C. A tremendous sire with great thickness, size and curly hair coat. Daughters were valued highly for their easy keeping ability, super udders and extra milk.

1990s
LCI HI ENERGY 170Y Maternal grandsire of 3325C. A quiet dispositioned, massive, high performance sire. Daughters are very productive, easy fleshing., problem-free cows with extra volume and milk. The 170Y females play a major role in producing quality seedstock here!
BP BRIGADIER 19Y

Sire of 42B. He was the total package: calving ease, strong maternal traits, pigment, total soundness and performance. He left us an outstanding set of daughters still is use.

BP MONTANA 42B Maternal grandsire of 01K Without question the best sire ever used here making our herd better in every way. Sire of amazing performance and muscle, yet his daughters are the most productive, sound cows we have ever had. Many of this years sale bulls are out of his daughters.
